Maria Naz quotation

Client: Maria Naz (Journey to Volunteering)

Main Challenges and Impact:

Difficulty Finding Employment – On meeting Maria for the first time she had not been in employment for nearly two years despite applying for jobs.

Lack of up to date work experience – Maria had not got any recent work or volunteer work experience to improve CV and help find work in her chosen career in office and administration.

Improve IT skills – Maria did have IT skills but wanted to improve them as she wanted to seek employment in an office and administration environment.

Improve Math’s qualification – Client did not have a Level 2 qualification which can be a barrier to improving employment.

Solutions Provided and Implementation:

Help find employment and improve CV- To help Mara improve her chances of finding employment I contacted Barnardos to see if a volunteer administration role was available at the Family Hub near to where she lives. I was advised that there was. Following interview and various checks Maria is due to start her placement. This will provide much needed work experience in the administration and office environment and will improve her CV and job searching.

Improve IT Skills – Maria has been booked onto our IT course to improve her digital skills and to also help her with her new volunteer role.  This will improve Maria’s confidence in working in this environment, improve her CV and help to obtain employment.

Improve Math’s qualification – I contacted Sandwell Adult and Family Learning (SAFL) to see if there was any Math’s Functional Skills Level 2 courses available. SAFL provided details of courses at the Tipton location near to where Maria lives. Maria is in the process of doing assessment with a view to starting her Level 2 Functional Skills course in September.

Key Outcomes:

Obtained a suitable volunteer placement close to where Maria lives which will provide valuable work experience to improve CV and help with job search.

Subject to assessment Maria will be starting Math’s Functional Skills Level 2 in Math’s.

Maria will be attending SWEDA IT classes to improve her IT skills and compliment her volunteer role at  Barnardo.  This will improve CV and help with job search.

Conclusion:

Maria will now commence her volunteer administration role to provide much needed up to date work experience which will enhance her CV and improve her job search.

By Maria attending IT classes at SWEDA too she will improve her IT skills which will help with her volunteer role.  Attending IT class will also improve her CV and boost her job seeking potential. Many job vacancies require both Math’s and English at Level 2 so by starting Level 2 Math’s in September this will again improve CV and assist with job search.
