Client V

Client V had been unemployed since moving to the UK, and had struggled to find employment due to lack of employability skills and digital skills. She became disheartened she was unable to secure interviews and when applying for roles online did not receive replies. Unfortunately, this started to have an effect on her overall confidence and become isolated and felt very stressed.  Client V visited the local library and had seen a leaflet for the Made project and decided to call and book an appointment for employment support.

What did SWEDA do?

At the initial appointment we conducted an assessment of Client V’s barrier to employment and we identified she required a new CV tailored towards settling on cleaning job as this was the sector of interest. She was very open at the initial appointment in relation to her confidence was low and had become worried she would be unable to find work. Client V’s employment advisor recommended attending Confidence building workshops and our coffee mornings on Mondays. After she attended several sessions the improved confidence was clear to see and attentions were turned towards looking for work, Client V was supported by Employment Advisor to carry out 1-2-1 job search and applied for suitable part-time cleaning roles. This led to Client V been invited to an interview for a cleaning role at Birmingham Airport, she was excited but extremely nervous due to being her first interview since moving to the UK. The employment advisor put Client V at ease by covering interview techniques including a mock interview and helped her prepare for the interview, her employment adviser provided constructive feedback on the mock interview and Client V stated she felt confident to attend the interview.

Impact to the client

Client V attended the interview and was offered a part-time cleaning role working at Birmingham Airport 20 hours per week. Client V was delighted she had secured her first job in the UK and was excited to start the role. The employment advisor supported her with updating her Universal Credit Journal with the changes in circumstance.

How has the client life changed

Client V overall confidence has improved and it has been a pleasure to see how well she has progressed with support from SWEDA. She keeps in touch via telephone calls on a fortnightly basis with her employment advisor and each time confirms the role is going well. Client V advised now she has secured employment and been working for a few weeks she feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.
